Black aluminium bifold doors folded fully open from a bright living space onto a terrace with glass balustrade

Aluminium bifold doors in London

Aluminium doors that fold and stack to the side, opening almost the whole wall to the garden, for rear extensions and garden rooms.

01Aluminium doors

How bifold doors work

Aluminium bifold doors are hinged glazed panels that fold back like a concertina, clearing around 90% of the opening. Open, kitchen and terrace become one room; closed, each fold shows two frames side by side.

01

Three, four or five sashes

For most 3 to 4 metre openings, three or four; above about 5 metres the stack gets heavy and deep.

02

Traffic door

An everyday door in the end sash, on its own handle, so the bins go out without unfolding the wall.

03

Weathered or flush threshold

Weathered, with a small upstand, for exposed outside walls; flush for sheltered openings such as the step into a conservatory.

04

Colour and glass

Powder-coated aluminium frames, with integral blinds or privacy glass where the doors face a neighbour or the afternoon sun.

04Asked before every survey

The questions that matter.

Should I choose bifold or sliding doors for my extension?
Bifold if you open the wall often, sliding if the closed view matters more. Sliding keeps a panel fixed, opening 50 to 66%; a slim slider shows one 20 mm interlock. In London doors stay shut October to April. See both in our Ruislip showroom.
How many sashes do I need for a four-metre opening?
Three or four. A 3+1 split, three sashes folding one way and a traffic door the other, balances slim sightlines with everyday convenience. Five sashes on four metres means narrow panes and extra moving parts. We confirm the layout at survey.
Can I have a flush threshold on bifold doors?
On a sheltered opening, yes. On an exposed wall, we advise against it. With nothing for seals to press on, a flush track relies on brushes, and wind-driven rain gets under the panels. A small upstand keeps water out and is easy to step over.
Are bifold doors secure?
Yes, when the locking is specified properly. Each closed sash is held by multipoint locking, and the hinges need anti-lift protection so the panels cannot be lifted out. PAS24 tested options available, and we agree the lock and cylinder at survey.
Why does installation matter so much on a bifold?
A folding wall runs true only when everything around it is straight. Panes are packed at opposite corners so sashes cannot drop, and the beam above is designed to span/500 or 5 mm, whichever is less. Our own team surveys, supplies and fits it all.
