01VELFAC windows

What are VELFAC windows?

VELFAC windows are structural composite windows: solid aluminium outside carries the glass, while an FSC pine frame sits on the warm side. Architects and self-builders specify them for large glazed elevations and tight thermal targets.

01

Structural composite

Aluminium outside does the structural work and takes the weather; the pine inside stays dry and warm to the touch.

02

Uniform sightlines

Fixed and opening lights share one 54 mm external profile, so from the street you cannot tell which opens.

03

Dual colour

One colour for the facade, another for the room: RAL, anodised or Granite outside, 170+ lacquers or clear-lacquered pine inside.

04

Doors to match

Sliding and terrace doors in the same wood-aluminium build, so doors and windows read as one grid.

The questions that matter.

What makes VELFAC a composite rather than alu-clad?
The solid aluminium outside carries the glazing unit, and the pine frame sits deep behind the seal on the protected side. In alu-clad, thin aluminium covers a timber frame that still does the structural work, and moisture trapped under warming metal can rot it.
Why do VELFAC windows open outward?
VELFAC 200 Energy follows Scandinavian logic: wind presses the sash onto its seals, rain runs off and the deep sill stays free. By a narrow passage or external blinds, the VELFAC In tilt and turn opens inward; keep its sill clear. We advise at survey.
Can I use VELFAC windows in a conservation area?
Usually not the slim 200 Energy profile. Conservation officers reject changes to reveal depth, bead profile and opening method whatever the thermal performance. For protected streets, VELFAC Classic reproduces the look of putty glazing. The council has the last word, so ask before you apply.
Is a wood-aluminium window really maintenance-free?
Almost: minutes a year, no repainting. Wash the aluminium with soap and water and check the lacquered pine annually, touching up scratches. Vacuum the gap between aluminium and pine now and then, and give the hardware acid-free oil yearly, a manufacturer's warranty condition.
When should I order VELFAC windows for a self-build?
Earlier than replacement windows. Units are made to order; lead time depends on finish and colour, confirmed with your quote. Order from the architect's drawings, brickwork held to millimetre tolerances. Timber frames wait until the building is watertight; our team plans lifting and sequencing.
